These are simple procedures for the patient that do not require needles, contrast, or exposure to radiation. Sound waves are used to see inside the body.
Uterine FibroidsThis procedure is painless and does not expose you to radiation. Ultrasound works by sending high frequency sound waves into the pelvic region. The preparation that you go through is of vital importance to the outcome of your examination.
You might be asked to drink five (5) 8 oz. glasses of non-carbonated liquid one hour prior to the exam. Do not empty your bladder. At the beginning of the exam, you will be asked to lie still on a table. A gel will be applied to the area being scanned, and a transducer will pass lightly across your lower abdomen. It is necessary that the lower part of your abdomen be exposed during this exam. A series of images will be taken. It may be necessary to insert a small transducer into the vagina to see the structures optimally. When these are processed, and we are satisfied with the quality, you will be allowed to empty your bladder and go home. A typewritten report will be sent to your physician.
Abdominal Gall StoneThis procedure is performed the same way as the pelvic ultrasound. You may be instructed not to eat or drink after midnight, and prior to your exam.
Ultrasound works by sending high frequency sound waves into the abdomen. The pattern of echoes from these sound waves is converted into an image (sonogram) of the abdomen’s interior, including the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys.
